My partner, Emmitt, and I have been fighting an illegal and discriminatory eviction for about 19 months. We've been representing ourselves, because mysteriously, NONE of the 30+ state- and nationwide agencies we contacted were willing to help. We had a great defense, but due to illegal and preferential actions committed by the judge and opposing lawyer, we lost. We are working with the FBI and the Philadelphia Coalition on Human Relations to file federal charges against this judge and lawyer, as well as against our landlord, their other tenants, the local police, who do not come when we call (even failed to come when the other tenants on the property broke into our place and basically looted through our things and stole whatever they wanted), the county we live in, and the Commonwealth of PA. Meanwhile, we are both disabled and unable to work. I've been wavering about posting this ever since we found out we lost and have to be out by Sept 26th because this judge did some MAJOR dirty dealing, and because of the level of corruption we've recently found out about at this courthouse, he basically is trying to put us out on the street so that we won't be able to file these charges against him. It's a long, drawn out tale. The punchline is that now, after all this time, effort, and money tossed out to this case in order to defend our rights as transgender people to HAVE A HOME, we now have very little money, and nowhere to go. We are working on the "nowhere to go" part. And I know that almost everyone is struggling right now, so I've been VERY reluctant to ask for help. A lot of that has to do with pride too, but there's no time for that now. We're working on getting assistance from the state for housing, but that takes time. We're also working on a place to "crash" until that happens, which MAY turn out ok. Otherwise, we'll be camping somewhere. I have posted a link to a chip-in account in my profile, in the hopes that someone, anyone, can lend a hand, even if it's a couple of bucks. Informational help is good too, because there seems to be a deficit of THAT available here in Pennsylvania as well. I wouldn't ask if it wasn't an emergency, and if there's nothing you can do, I understand. ~Simon (and Emmit by proxy)
